I have tried several potty training books. I used to recommend potty training books when I worked at a bookstore so I thought I would have no problem with finding a good one to read to Abigail.
- Once Upon a Potty by Alona Frankel - This was one of my favorites to recommend and it is a good one, but can be a little tedious to read out loud. Also, the potty chair is a chamber pot, which is great if you have a chamber pot (Nova Naturals sells them), but we have an Elmo potty chair and a Dora potty seat. Not the same thing at all. It did give me a fun way to talk about body parts, though.
- Everyone Poops by Tami Gomi and Amanda Mayer Stinchecum - emphasizes that everyone has to go to the bathroom. It's just a fact of life, and nothing to be embarrassed about or scared of. My husband was a little freaked out by all the poop illustrations, and Abigail just didn't seem to care.
- Going to the Potty by Fred Rogers - This one may be my favorite. Instead of cartoony illustrations, this book is filled with photos of real kids sitting on the potty. The book uses technical terms instead of cutesy ones which I liked (although "bowel movement" does get a little tedious).
Did your child have a special book the helped with potty training? I'm open to suggestions!
